NOTFAST celebrated its 30th birthday in style on Friday night with a function at the Ramada Resort hotel at Marston. NOTFAST members and their partners enjoyed a 3-course dinner followed by lots of dancing, and the evening was made extra special by the finishing touches provided by our ingenious social committee and other club members, including running-themed table decorations, NOTFAST cakes, and tortoise decorations in various shapes and sizes in recognition of the club mascot. There was also a quiz and a chance to see some photos from the first ever training night and the early days of the club. Club chairman Stuart Ashley, who has been a member since the club was founded, had the honour of cutting the cake. Many thanks to everyone involved for putting on such a great social event. The social committee certainly achieved a PB with this one!

Saturday morning saw several of the Friday night revellers blowing the cobwebs away at Parkrun. Adam Holland went over to Boston to win the Parkrun there. Richard Borrill got a PB at Newark, and is now working out how to get a Friday night party into his training plan every week! (Must have been those party-bag jelly beans Richard!) Kate Fisher was initially disappointed to be 3s off her PB, but then realised she was 5th female, 1st in age category, and had achieved her best ever age grading. There were also Parkrun PB’s for Peter Lane and Ady Dix.

Ten NOTFAST runners took on the Sherwood Pines trail 10k on Sunday, which the website says “contains no real challenging hills”, but the hills it does have seem to go on for ever! The large puddles caused by Saturday’s rain made it even more of a challenge, but it was a well organised and enjoyable event attracting around 600 runners. Our runners were Jim Lovett 49:00, Simon Lock 53:28, Claire Wood 54:03, Peter Lane 54:47, Annette Taylor 57:29, Nick Rayns 57:47, Chris Redhead 59:52, Breeze Rowlands 1:14:06, Britta Barnett 1:15:16, Gill Goode 1:22:14.

Meanwhile, Piotr Dura was in Pila in Poland to run the Rock and Metal half marathon, which he finished in a fantastic time of 1h35. Post-run entertainment was provided by one of Poland’s top metal bands, the Acid Drinkers!
