Rachel Sheldrake and Julie Mumby both took on their first ultra on Saturday, the Dukeries Ultra 30 mile event. Having run through some water in the first mile Julie was left with soaking trainers and socks which quickly led to large & painful blisters on both feet. Determined not to give up she jog/walked the rest of the event with some amazing support from husband Adrian and many of the other runners to finish in 9h53. Although Julie shed blood sweat and tears she loved the route (which takes in Sherwood Forest, Cresswell Crags and Clumber Park) and the atmosphere and will be back for more next year! Rachel also enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and fared rather better with her footwear to finish in 6h47.
Annette Taylor ran the RSPCA Carsington 7+, a 7.76 mile run around Carsington Water in Derbyshire. Annette reports that the “undulating” course was a lot more hilly than expected, and she finished in 1h20.
Four of our runners were at the inaugural Nottingham Asda 10k on Sunday, which starts and finishes in the market square. Fay Paterson was running her first ever 10k, and finished in 68:54, overtaking Nottingham Forest legend Stuart Pearce along the way! The other NOTFAST runners were Richard Borrill 50:35, Nick Clarke 53:35, and Pete Tatton 68:52. The event attracted over 2000 runners, although it was one of the pricier 10k’s at nearly £30 (Pete remembers the day you could enter a 50 mile ultra for £2 and get use of Hereford Football club’s communal bath thrown in!)
Sunday was also the day for the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon, which was hard going in the warm sunshine, although this was preferable to the miserable wet weather of last year. Ady Dix was the first of our runners home in 1h30, followed by Stuart Chase in 1h50 (PB), Andy Rowlands in 2h16, and Lisa Leach in an uncomfortable 2h20, as she was suffering from a stomach upset and was very grateful to the local residents who allowed her to use their facilities!
Adam Holland has set a couple of records this weekend; firstly a category record for Senior Male 25-29 Parkrun, running Plym Valley Parkrun in just 17:10, and then setting a course record by winning at the newly re-instated Exeter Marathon in 2:42:50. Adam will also be completing his 100th Parkrun at Newark on 28th May, and would love as many club members as possible to join him there.
Another little plea to send results to Ann, or at least put results on the club’s Facebook page before Monday night if possible. If you don’t want your results to be read out on Tuesday nights, just say so, but we like to keep a record of all events run by our members, and this also helps the committee to select members for club awards at the end of the year.
