Stuart Ashley has at last had favourable weather for one of his long distance walks – not too hot or humid! Stuart walked the Elsecar Skelter in the countryside between Barnsley and Rotherham. The figure of eight undulating route takes in Wentworth Woodhouse (with an east front of 185m it is the longest country house facade in Europe and has more than 300 rooms), Wentworth Village, Wharncliffe Crags with views over the Eden and Don Valleys , Wortley Hall and Tankersley Old Hall (where scenes from the film “Kes” were shot). Stuart completed the 26.2 miles in 7 hours 58 minutes.

It was a very successful Sunday morning for NOTFAST runners at the inaugural Great Grimsby 10k. Ady Dix was 87th out of over 1200 runners, and was 14th in his age category with a PB of 39:53. PB’s also for Stuart Chase – 49:36 and Andy Rowlands – 50:44.

Adam Holland took part in his first 100 mile race, the Grim Reaper, which involves running 10 x 10 mile loops round the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle, with the opportunity to rest and re-fuel after each lap. As this was his first 100-miler and he was going into it with tired legs, Adam wasn’t sure what to expect, but in true Adam style he came first and set a new course record, completing the 100 miles in 17:35:44!

Another Parkrun PB this week for Breeze Rowlands, and also for Kirsty Watt, both at Newark Parkrun.
