Colin Green ran the Bolsover 10k on Sunday Now Colin is still getting back some form after a long achilles heel injury and his planned sub-hour time was ..”not to be”. He was on the other hand..”Reasonably happy” with a 1.01.03.
Colin reported ” a well organised, marshalled event, run off on a day that saw beautiful sunshine with a gentle breeze in pleasant, peaceful countryside.
Also in Derbyshire were David Watt and Liz Walton. Now their challenge was somewhat different. The event was the RAB Mountain Marathon in the Dark Peak, over Edale way. This is how it goes :
Competitors have a four hour cut-off time in which to orienteer themselves to as many Control Points to build up a score. Now my understanding of this is that tactics are important to minimise time spent between Controls. They had set themselves an achievable target and got back to the finish only 31 seconds outside the time limit..Liz reported fabulous weather and a type of event that they plan to do again. It was one of those serious challenges where all participants kit is checked before ‘the off’…. everything from appropriate footwear through to the compass are scrutinised…even change for the phone (wherever that would be up Dark Fell ) Perhaps the most chilling warning was the one that made it clear that non-compliance with the rules could result in a competitor picking up the tab for Mountain Rescue !!
